This Farm Residence is located in the charming and pleasant medieval town of Capranica, Province of Viterbo, 55 KMS ( 35 miles ) north of Rome.
Staying at "I CASTAGNI" in our cozy bedrooms or apartments, you can either visit the antique treasures of Rome well connected by train, car or bus, or the beautiful natural and artistic sceneries nearby. On premise and in the area one can practice various sport activities: horseback riding, trekking, cycling, surfing, sailing, golf, tennis. Enjoy the swimming - pool.

Typical products of Tuscia
Tuscia is a land rich of delicious tastes and local products where agriculture is a major economic resource as well as a traditional aspect of local culture. Agriculture in Tuscia maintains the original natural products genuine, at the same time achieving the right balance between agricultural production, environmental sustainability and food security. The local cuisine is very similar to the traditional Roman Cuisine with a little bit of Tuscany in it, but all with the simplicity of Umbrian cuisine which comes from rural homes. These are the virtues of local cuisine, which mainly relies on the main courses of which the "hay" of the lieutenant of Canepina, seems insurmountable. Another honored main course is “Lombrichelli” (pasta flour and water) and soups, pasta and beans, pasta and chickpeas, rice and lentils, chickpeas and chestnuts. Acquacotta (chicory, potatoes, tomatoes, onion, mint and chili with the addition of salt codfish or egg) deserves a star apart. A rarity is the "Sbroscia (by appointment only in the restaurants that overlook the lake of Bolsena): fish soup seasoned with the fragrances of the garden in special clay-pots. To be eaten in springtime is the "Scafata", prepared with fresh broad beans and pancetta, and almost a whole meal in one soup is the lamb soup that does not exclude the presence of artichokes and potatoes. In the pizza places it is very popular among young people to eat off meals and have a glass of wine: bruschetta with a thousand flavors (beans, tomatoes, onions, aromatic sauces) salami, crostini of venison, fried lattarini (special cheese), fried borage and more. The best meats are those of the rabbit and chicken, fried with tomatoes and hunters style , the excellent roast lamb or grilled, pork , cow`s entrails (tripe and straw), The "Pignattaccia stew with vegetables and trimmings of meat. The fish from the lake is also enjoyed at Bolsena, Marta and Capodimonte , perch, whitefish, tench, pike and eels, those of the sea, thanks to good conservation systems, are proposed a bit everywhere.
As I have mentioned in other posts on this website dedicated to the territory of the Tuscia, our roots are rural, and this is reflected in our cuisine that is part of the Mediterranean Diet and Italian lifestile, renowned throughout the world.

FIUMICINO Airport by car
From Terminals building or rent car grounds follow directions for ROMA (Rome), you will yield into the four lane motorway Roma Fiumicino, on your left hand side you will see a sign indicating that you are at Km 18 (from Rome). You will have to drive to Km7, and enter the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare-City Belt Line). DO NOT TAKE the first EXIT (Direction NAPOLI), but take the one immediately after (Direction FIRENZE). You will loop around, then stay on the left, disregard any other exit and you will be on the 6 lane GRA. Keep driving for about 20/25 Km to EXIT No. 5 (Cassia V./ SS 2 bis) direction VITERBO. Do not be confused by other signs indicating Cassia (which is not the Cassia bis you are looking for). Keep driving to Km 53. You will pass: CAMPAGNANO (Km 28,800), TREVIGNANO (Km 35,200) , MONTEROSI (Km 41,700 road becomes narrow), SUTRI (Km 48,900). Than you will pass the sign for CAPRANICA. On your left there will be a large building with the sign " CHIN8NERI " on top. On your right you will see a large square with a Pizzeria "Le Fontanelle", the supermarket "Todis" and a Church to its right. Take the road wich is between the Church and the supermarket. You will see the first of 3 signs indicating B&B " I CASTAGNI ". Follow them!!
FIUMICINO Airport by train
Take train M 70 (FM 1) Fiumicino - Fara Sabina or Orte (do not take train to Termini - trains every half hour from 6 am to 10,30 pm), stop at Roma Ostiense station (6th stop). Take train M 77 (FM 3) Roma Ostiense - Viterbo (careful, take trains departing only at 40 of the hour), stop at Capranica - Sutri station (20th stop - trip time 1h 20 min.)
from ROME by car ROME Take Via Cassia bis (SS2bis) to Le Rughe, continue on Cassia (SS2), direction Monterosi, Sutri, Capranica.
from MILANO, BOLOGNA, FIRENZE by car
MILAN, BOLOGNA, FLORENCE by car... Take highway A1 direction Rome, take ORTE exit, take four lane motorway to Viterbo (look for the sign Viterbo - drive until Viterbo Sud end of the motorway). Continue to drive (road narrows- Cassia road) direction Vetralla, Cura di Vetralla, Capranica.Drive until Km sign 54 at the end of the town, immediately after, on your left, you will find a square with Pizzeria Le Fontanelle, the "Todis" supermarket and a small church. Take the road between the supermarket and the Church. You will see the first, of three, sign of " I Castagni ". Follow them!!
from the south (NAPOLI, BARI) by car
South (Bari, Napoli)... Take highway A1 direction Rome, before toll station Roma Sud take Diramazione Nord (North belt road - you will stay on A1), keep driving direction Firenze, take exit Orte. Take four lane motorway to Viterbo (look for the sign Viterbo-drive until Viterbo Sud end of the motorway), continue to drive (road narrows-Cassia road) direction Vetralla, Cura di Vetralla, Capranica. Drive until Km sign 54 once you pass the town of Capranica, on your left, you will find a square with Pizzeria Le Fontanelle, the "Todis" supermarket and a small church. Take the road between the supermarket and the Church. You will see the first, of three, sign of " I CASTAGNI ". Follow them!!
